知的でない人間は，対話や議論を拒む。「いけないことは理屈ではなく，有無を言わさずいけないと教えなければならない，それが品格というものだ」などという人間に知性は存在しない。こういう知的でない言説が大衆受けするのは，「いけない」ことの内容を自分で勝手に代入して，現在の自分の立場を無反省に正当化できるからにほかならない。これが大衆の保守化である。平成大不況の中で疲れ果て，知的に考えることが面倒になってしまったのだろう。しかし，何度でも繰り返すが，そこには知性はない。（pp.135-136）
